Exciting news: Steps star Lee Latchford-Evans has revealed he and his wife Kerry-Lucy are expecting their first baby – a son due this summer

The couple married in 2012, having met at a gig in 2007. In 2018, Kerry-Lucy fell pregnant, but sadly miscarried 10 weeks later.

Kerry went on to explain the moment she showed her husband the positive pregnancy test: ‘Lee’s eyesight isn’t the best and he said, “There’s definitely no pink line!” I woke up at 4am the next day and did another and it was definitely positive.

‘I think Lee was in shock and still half asleep so I did a digital one that said pregnant and I was like, “Do you believe me now?” It took three tests!’

Lee – who found fame in Steps in 1997 alongside co-stars Faye Tozer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Claire Richards and Lisa Scott Lee – added: ‘It’s a mix of joy but also worry. You think, “Is it going to happen again?” For us our safety net was the 20-week scan.’

Lee told his bandmates over Zoom recently, adding that he’ll be busy in August.

Lee is the only Steps star not yet to welcome a child, with the others already parents.

H is dad to five-year-old twins Macsen and Cybi, who were born via a surrogate in March 2016.

Claire is mother to son Charlie, 13, and 11-year-old Daisy. Lisa is mother to Jaden, 13, and Star, 11, while Faye is mum to 12-year-old Benjamin.

The band welcomed their kids onstage with them in 2017, during the Steps 20th anniversary tour.

Much like Lee, H also experienced the trauma of miscarriage, when he and his now-ex Craig Ryder first attempted to have children via a surrogate.

In 2012, the singer, now 44, said that his surrogate miscarrying was the worst thing that has ever happened to him, after he and Craig tried for years to become parents.

Ian told The People that hearing the news that his child’s heart stopped beating was the ‘worst moment of his life.’

He said: ‘We were thinking of names, and we even planned our first Christmas as a family. We were both ready to be Dads. I just feel really empty and helpless.’

Initially Ian and Craig kept quiet when their surrogate told them the news that she was pregnant, but after the three-month scan they felt able to share the news to those close to them.

Ian and Craig talked about having children from a very early stage in their relationship, and decided in 2008 to adopt.

The couple had already attempted the lengthy adoption process, but after a year and a half, having made little progress, decided to try surrogacy.
