Amanda Holden was dolled up to the nines for the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night in a lilac ball gown with feather-cuffed sleeves.

But Amanda, 50, came under fire after she attempted to speak Dutch as the show was broadcast from Rotterdam, saying: ‘Bonsoir. Goedenavond. That is good evening in French and Dutch although I’ve got absolutely no idea which is which. This is London calling. What a fantastic show this evening. I am Amanda Holden – I love Eurovision.’

Fans quickly took to Twitter to slam the blonde bombshell’s comments, with one writing: ‘That’s exactly why nobody likes us #Eurovision2021.’

The full tweet read: ‘Amanda Holden – an absolute embarrassment with her arrogance whilst representing the UK on Eurovision. That’s exactly why nobody likes us #Eurovision2021.’ 

Another social media user added: ‘Amanda Holden’s “lol I don’t know which European language is which hehe I’m so British” is the exact reason we get nil point. #Eurovision2021.’ 

A third penned: ‘Oh cheers for that Amanda Holden, really helping us with the pariah status.’

Amanda then brought attention to her eye-catching ensemble, as she went on: ‘The drama, the excitement, and all the wildly over-the-top outfits – and that’s just me.’ 

‘But now the exciting part,’ she went on. ‘Our first votes are on the screen and the twelve points from the United Kingdom goes to France.’

While Amanda announced that 12 points were going to France, the UK had a disastrous outing, with James Newman, 35, finishing bottom of the leaderboard with zero points for the second time in a row.

The Italian band Maneskin leaped triumphed at the 65th Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands.

The pop-rock group, who won with scored 524 points in the grand final, beamed with excitement as they waved to the crowds and were confirmed as this year’s 2021 winners at the Rotterdam Ahoy arena.

Gold glitter rained from the ceiling as the group climbed back on stage to lift the trophy and they were invited to perform their winning song Zitti E Buoni in front of excited crowds once more.

Ahead of the show, Amanda took to Instagram to pose in her shimmering statement dress while standing next to a giant ‘A’, the presenter joked: ‘A Holden – never knowingly understated’.

Amanda exuded glamour as she stood with her hand on her hip and looked coyly to the left in the breathtaking gown. 

The Britain’s Got Talent judge accentuated her curves in the black tie ensemble as the dress featured a chic ribbon belt at her waist.  

She wore her blonde tresses up in a stylish up-do and allowed her longer layers to fall around her face for the occasion.

Looking flawless, Amanda donned a full face of makeup and beamed a smile as she worked her angles next to the huge ‘A’.  

Earlier this week, the UK’s James was given odds of just 200/1 by Betfair to win the 65th annual Eurovision Song Contest. 

Instead it was the Italian band Maneskin who leaped for joy as they triumphed at the contest in the Netherlands after scooping a whopping 524 points. 

On several occasions during the show, host Graham Norton became emotional as he discussed the struggle people across the world have experienced as a result of Covid-19.

Opening the show he also began to feel emotional as he told to the UK audience: ‘Finally we are here. It’s a really emotional night. 

‘If I start blubbering at any time, apologies, because I am all over the place. There is so much joy and celebration here that this contest is back on and we’re all here together tonight.’
