Nikki Reed and Evan Rachel Wood ‘didn’t speak’ for years after making Thirteen together

Nikki Reed and Evan Rachel Wood had a brief rivalry after making the movie Thirteen together.

Reed, 33, revealed that the duo went through a ‘couple of years’ where they ‘didn’t speak’ at all, only to ‘reconnect’ years later.

The Twilight actress looked back on their relationship while talking to Story + Rain’s Editor-in-Chief Tamara Rappa for the publication’s podcast series.

There, Nikki explained how the young woman, who were just teens when they made the 2003 film, were unknowingly ‘pitt[ed] against’ each other.

Tension: Nikki Reed revealed there were ‘a couple years’ where she and Thirteen co-star Evan Rachel Wood ‘didn’t speak,’ after being pitted against each other during and after the 2003 movie. Nikki is seen in February 2020 above

‘We were too young to realize this at the time, but there were a lot of people that were kind of pitting us against each other, and making it a competitive atmosphere,’ the mother-of-one said.

‘Which, now, in hindsight, I’m like, “Of course, because isn’t that the recipe for how [to] treat all young women in this industry?”‘

Thirteen told the story of a junior high school student (Reed) who begins to rebel after meeting a troubled classmate (Wood,) experimenting with drugs, sex and crime.

Director Catherine Hardwicke wrote the script with the help of a 14-year-old Reed, who loosely drew inspiration from her own life.

Years later the women were able to reconnect and reflect on the tension.

Nikki recalled: ‘…The amazing thing is that her and I have reconnected.

‘In our early 20’s I reached out and I was like, “Hey, what happened?! You know, I love you so much, and I don’t know what happened.”‘

‘We sat down together and we had two hours of just, like, vomiting up all of our feelings and emotions about the process,’ Reed said. ‘We really connected the dots and moved past it in that one sit-down.’

‘She and I are so close now,’ the actress continued, before adding that the two ‘speak weekly, sometimes daily’ and ‘Facetime together.’

‘We grew up together and I think like all relationships, we took a little break in the beginning while we figured out who we were, and as you know now, she obviously had a very intense period of time where she was, I think, going through a lot of her own stuff,’ Reed said.

‘And so, as adults, to be able to reconnect and talk as moms together now, we’re both moms, we have a lot of shared experiences.’
