‘Prince Andrew would be loving the oxygen this ridiculous story is taking up’: Lisa Wilkinson pokes fun at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s rumoured feud with the royals on The Project

Lisa Wilkinson poked fun at the royals during a segment on Thursday’s episode of The Project.

The 61-year-old panelist was discussing a recent BBC report, which claimed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle never asked the Queen permission to name their newborn daughter Lilibet, which was followed by lawyers for the couple denying this.

Lilibet is the Queen’s nickname, and was given to her when she was a young child struggling to pronounce her own name, Elizabeth.

Making light of the situation: Lisa Wilkinson poked fun at the royals during a segment on Thursday’s episode of The Project

‘Who knows what the truth is in this story? All I do know is how much Prince Andrew would be loving the oxygen this ridiculous story is taking up right now,’ Lisa joked.

Prince Andrew has been embroiled in controversy in recent years for his connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The 61-year-old royal counted the late Epstein as a friend, and admitted to having stayed at his notorious mansion for three days in 2010.

The scandal prompted Prince Andrew to step down from his royal duties, with the FBI still looking to interview him.

It’s not the first time Lisa has been vocal about the royal family.

On Monday, she pointed out that certain royals phrased their congratulatory messages to Harry and Meghan, 39, differently following the birth of their daughter.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on Friday in California, and announced the news on Sunday.

Lisa observed that the Cambridges didn’t use Harry, 36, and Meghan’s royal titles when acknowledging Lilibet’s birth.

Neither did Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, but Harry’s grandmother The Queen did refer to their titles.

This omission comes amid a wider discussion about whether or not the Sussexes should relinquish their titles in light of their relentless criticism of the royal family.

‘Can’t help noticing that neither the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, nor Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, used Harry and Meghan’s royal titles in the messages of congrats on the birth of baby Lilibet,’ tweeted Lisa.

She added: ‘The Queen – after whom the baby is named – was the only one that did.’
