Former Bachelor star Alisha Aitken-Radburn is ‘disillusioned’ with Australian politics

Former Bachelor star and Labor staffer Alisha Aitken-Radburn admits she’s ‘disillusioned’ with the state of Australian politics at the moment after several political scandals this year

Despite a previous career in politics, Alisha Aitken-Radburn has admitted she’s ‘disillusioned’ with Australia’s government at the moment.

In an interview with AAA, as re-reported by PerthNow, the 28-year-old former Bachelor star and Labor staffer referred to the many political scandals that had surfaced this year.

Among them was Brittany Higgins, a former Liberal staffer who alleged she’d been raped in Parliament House by a colleague.

The 26-year-old went public with her ordeal in February, sending shockwaves through the government and the Australian public.

Since Ms Higgins spoke out, several more allegations have been levelled against Australian politicians and political staffers.

‘I’ve been feeling so disillusioned, it’s been a horrible year. I didn’t want to feel like I’d have to seek out other arenas to make change in this world to make a difference,’ said Alisha.

‘I’ve always seen politics and Parliament House as the most practical way we can make a difference to people’s lives.’

Despite her disillusionment, Alisha said she and her boyfriend, Glenn Smith – who she met on last year’s season of Bachelor in Paradise – still take enjoyment from watching political programs.

‘Me and my partner, Glenn – we are big fans of what we call “ABC Mondays” just because it’s a great line-up – 7.30 Report, Australian Story, Four Corners, Media Watch,’ she explained.

‘So we just park up with a red wine and enjoy the night.’

But she confessed that she’s had to ‘switch off’ as the triggering stories started to take a toll.

‘I just found every Monday night it was just bombardment of all these awful stories. I actually ended up having to switch off,’ she added.
