Should you wash the raw chicken, before cooking it or not?
Most Black people prefer to wash the chicken, to remove any dirt and debris from the meat. A few weeks ago, the United States Department of Agriculture warned people of the dangers of washing raw chicken.
But now they are offering steps, for those that choose to wash uncooked meat – on how to do it safely.
Raw chicken can sometimes be contaminated with salmonella bacteria, which is harmful and can even be deadly. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, cross-contamination is a major risk when you choose to wash your chicken in the sink before preparing it.
The USDA is giving steps, for those that choose to wash their chicken:
First, prepare foods that will not be cooked, like salad or vegetables, before handling chicken. Second, use sanitizer on any surfaces that you used to prepare your chicken. Third, use a meat thermometer so you know when your chicken is perfectly cooked and no longer containing traces of disease.
