Virgil Abloh Publishes Star-Studded Group Chat to Commemorate Off-White™ x Nike Dunk Low

The much-heralded Off-White™ x Nike SB Dunk Low set finally launched in late December, delivering one more banner footwear collaboration ahead of year’s end. To commemorate the release, Virgil Abloh joined a quartet of influential Nike associates — fragment design mastermind Hiroshi Fujiwara, Diamond Supply co. founder Nick Diamond, Nike Special Projects Senior Director Fraser Cooke and influential creative director Carri Munden — to discuss the SB Dunk’s place in sneaker and cultural history with The Face Magazine.

Screenshots of the text messages reveal a freewheeling discourse on the history of the sneaker, each participant’s experience with the Dunk and precious Nike memories. For instance, Diamond reflects on skating the then-affordable Air Jordan 1, Fujiwara remembers the challenges of introducing Nike Japan to the Dunk and Munden touches on the influence of James Lavelle and the legendary “Dunkle.”

Cooke, a Nike insider, offers insight to the behind-the-scenes conversations and impactful events, like when he partnered with the influential Michael Kopelman on the Stüssy dunk. He even gets nostalgic with Abloh over the ultra-rare Alphanumeric Dunks ; as the Louis Vuitton Director puts it, “That Dunk was so good it felt like a myth.”

Check out some snippets of the conversation above and read the entire piece on The Face Magazine‘s website.
